Meet, friends, the WordPress cleaning plugin – WP-Sweep. This module allows you to clean up unused, orphaned and duplicate data in WordPress. It also optimizes database tables.

The plugin is lightweight and easy to use, with a simple interface. WP Sweep also includes a preview feature so you can see what data will be removed before you confirm the wipe.

The plugin makes the most of the proper garbage removal features in WordPress instead of running direct MySQL delete queries. You can significantly speed up your WordPress site by optimizing your database.

WP-Sweep Admin Page (Before Sweep)

A convenient settings screen will appear that allows you to choose which areas of your database to clean up with one click.

All editions will appear in the list that opens. Clicking on Details will open a list of versions that will be affected by the cleanup.

For performance reasons, clicking Details will only show 500 items.

It is better not to choose mass cleaning, but to choose one by one.

Click the Clear button.

Repeat the process with everything you don’t need. Cleaning the WP database should be done monthly.

Although WP-Sweep does not support scheduled cleaning, it is the easiest plugin to use. It allows you to get rid of the junk that is slowing down your WordPress database.

You might be wondering why I’m writing about WP-Sweep when there is a very popular WP-Optimize pluginwhich does almost the same thing.

That’s because it was written by respected WordPress developer Lester Chan.

And also because the main distinguishing feature of WP-Sweep is that it makes maximum use of the correct WordPress removal functions instead of running MySQL queries for direct removal. While the WP-Optimize plugin uses direct delete SQL queries which may leave orphaned data.

Looking at WP-Optimize, they use a SQL query to remove post revisions, which means that orphan data will remain.

In other words, WP-Sweep is a better coded plugin than WP-Optimize.
